Four weeks of hard use, it’s a keeper! Bargain 4K camcorder! UPDATED 8/25 I plan to update this review as I keep logging more hours behind it so the four stars could go up or perhaps down.I have a soft spot for super zooms and am always looking for “the one” that is the best compromise between quality, focal length, and size/weight. While not having the longest zoom or smallest size, The FZ1000 is fairly light to carry and the image and video quality is very impressive. What I like- Startup time is VERY fast and it’s ready to take a shot almost instantly- Just as fast is the autofocus. Fast and accurate- The EVF is big, detailed, and refreshes quickly. It’s a joy to use indoors and out- Flip LCD screen is also very nice although I wouldn’t mind one even larger- Ergonomics is great. Very good size hand grip and buttons are placed fairly well- Video quality is absolutely top notch- The latest Lightroom update supports FZ1000 RAW files and they look quite good. Not liking as much…

Fast to focus & sharp; great candidate for FZ50 replacement… Having given up SLR cameras long ago in favor of reduced gear to tote around, this bridge camera has grown to assume the bulk and weight of a medium sized SLR — just without the extra lenses to pack. There’s no getting around the size — it’s comfortable to hold and operate, but a brick to lug on a neck strap or stuff into a pack, and it can’t help but draw attention to itself when I bring it out, compared to my unassuming, somewhat pocketable LX7. That’s the trade-off to for extended reach with great glass and controls. But where does the SLR-sized FZ1000 fit in amongst APS and MFT cameras of similar proportions (some even smaller)? Price and lens range are the best rationale I can come up with. Although I might put together a price-competitive MFT setup, I couldn’t match the 25-400mm lens range with any one lens. However, this is probably my single most convincing argument ~against~ owning this camera. The FZ1000 replaces my beloved but aged FZ50, and improves…

This Camera Rocks in Many Ways! It is Awesome! Update 14 Feb, 16. I use this camera almost exclusively and love it. It takes great detailed photos and does really well in low light. This camera Rocks in many ways! What an improvement to the Panasonic line! I have shot at close quarters and far away, and am totally impressed with this camera. I could care less about all the extra features and glitter. What means a lot to me is the picture quality and the noise, or lack of it. This camera smashes it out of the park in those two respects and I am very happy with it. The Sony RX10 is also a great camera and some may go in that direction, but I went with the Panasonic as it has longer reach and I have Panasonic accessories from other Panasonic cameras so it is a no brainier for me.When you set the camera timer for 2 or 10 seconds, it stays on as long as the selector is in the timer mode on the dial on the left side of the camera. Compared to all the other Panys, this is awesome! I so hated to set the…
